The present invention relates to a device for an automotive vehicle, including a front bumper, a central bumper secured to the front bumper, a rear bumper disposed behind the front and central bumpers, and a bumper shell made of a tubular beam extending along an upper edge of the rear bumper and having at least two longitudinal reinforcing ribs disposed between the rear bumper and the bumper shell, wherein the reinforcing ribs are disposed on both longitudinal sides of the upper edge of the rear bumper and terminate substantially in the middle of the bumper shell.
2. Description of the Related Art
A conventional automotive vehicle of the above-described type is disclosed, for example, in DE 198 27 646 A1. A vehicle is disclosed there, in which the central bumper and the rear bumper are manufactured as a component unit in the form of a bumper plug and are subsequently combined with the front bumper in a subsequent installation step. For this purpose, the central bumper and the rear bumper are provided, in each case, with holes, for example, through which screws may be driven into the front bumper. The front bumper is configured in this regard so as to be elastically deformable, and is additionally provided on its upper side, on its lateral edges and on its underside with cutouts, which, in each case, are embodied as access holes for the installation of the central bumper and the rear bumper and through which the fastening screws may be driven into the corresponding holes of the front bumper, and the holes of the front bumper may thus be enlarged.
This design of the prior art poses a number of problems. For example, a multiple-layer support configuration, formed by the front bumper, the central bumper, and the rear bumper, is always subject to the problem that, for example, the fastening screws are not always installed completely flush. Since the fastening screws are typically installed into the front bumper in a drive-in operation, any misalignment of the screws will result in them not being completely flush with the upper side of the front bumper. On the other hand, the application of additional fixing means on the upper side of the front bumper is very complicated.
